Thanks to advancements in orthodontic procedures and technologies, it's now possible to straighten your teeth and brighten your smile without necessarily using traditional metal braces. One of the best ways to achieve this is with Invisalign.

Invisalign, for the uninitiated, is a teeth-straightening treatment that involves wearing a series of clear, custom-made, and removable aligners.

In this article, we'll explore some frequently asked questions about Invisalign. Primarily, will Invisalign turn your teeth yellow?

Does Invisalign Stain Teeth?

Generally, Invisalign does not stain your teeth, but you should avoid darker beverages such as coffee, tea, wine, juice, or soda. These beverages have an intense pigment that can find its way to your teeth and cause staining. If you do enjoy these beverages, just be sure to remove your aligners while drinking them, but for no longer than 30 minutes.

For optimal results, you should only stick to cold or room temperature water when you are wearing your aligner. This will not only protect your teeth and aligners but also help you achieve your desired smile.

"How Do I Keep My Invisalign Clean?"

To achieve your desired results, you have to keep your Invisalign at its best during your treatment. Here is what you should do:

  • Remove your aligners any time you eat or drink dark beverages. Also, be sure to brush and floss before putting your aligners back in. This will prevent dental issues down the road.
  • Clean your trays every morning and before going to bed. And rinse them each time you remove them. This will keep bacteria at bay and boost your oral hygiene. In addition, you can soak your trays in denture cleaners or cleaning crystals and clean them using an Invisalign toothbrush.
  • Do not soak your trays in hot water. This could warp them. It is also equally important to avoid using scented or colored soaps. This could leave your trays with a bad taste or even cause discoloration.
  • Store them in an air-tight case when you are not using them. This will protect them from potential damage or contact with bacteria.

"Can I Get My Teeth Whitened if I Use Invisalign?"

Yes, you can. But since Invisalign procedures and extent vary greatly between individuals, it's always advisable to consult with your dentist before starting on a teeth whitening program. Also, we recommend you avoid peroxide-based or strong whitening programs when undergoing Invisalign treatment because they can damage your aligners. Instead, use subtle whitening programs such as whitening toothpaste or rinses.

That said, it's generally usually best to try to avoid whitening programs at least until your teeth are fully straightened. That way, you'll avoid damaging your Invisalign. Also, your teeth will be aligned and straight, meaning the whitening process will cover more areas of your teeth and hence be more effective.
